His current role involves:

  • Analysis of food nutrients: proximate parameters such as protein, fat, moisture, ash, crude fibre, and carbohydrates using Kijeldahl method; vitamins such as A, B1 B2 and C, beta-carotene, iodine and cyanide using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), spectrophotometer and titration methods at TFNC

  • Investigation of the mixed flour for baby foods to determine whether it meets nutritional standards

  • Participating in research studies on reducing cassava toxic (cyanide) using various processes of reduction such as drying and fermentation conducted at Mtwara and in coastal rural areas

  • Supervision of undergraduate students during the practical session for chemistry and biochemistry

  • Assisting researchers with laboratory work such as water analysis for heavy metals; proximate parameters such as protein, tyrosine, fat, moisture, and ash content

  • Organizing the fellow technicians to work as team to ensure that all duties concerning preparation of students for laboratory work are completed on time

  • Training laboratory staff and undergraduate students to prepare chemical reagents

  • Servicing and replacing parts of laboratory equipment

  • Performing routine and specialized laboratory analysis

  • Documentation of all laboratory activities
