Millennium Science Initiative
The Millennium Science Initiative (MSI) was created in 1998 to build science and engineering capacity in developing countries. Highly adaptable to circumstances, the MSI achieved its mission through a variety of vehicles, among them competitively chosen centers or networks of excellence in scientific research and training.
When SIG's involvement in the MSI ended in 2012, the Chilean MSI continued to thrive, fully supported by its own government; Brazil’s National Institutes of Science and Technology Program, which grew out of the MSI, remained active; and AMMSI carried on independently. The MSIs in Mexico and Uganda were no longer active at that time.
