Pilot Activity in Cameroon

A balance in the UNDP planning grant made it possible for SIG to support a GSC pilot activity in Buea, Cameroon. Dr. Appolinaire Djikeng, a Cameroonian national who was at the time a staff scientist in the Infectious Disease Group of the J. Craig Venter Institute in Maryland, was appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology of the University of Buea, where he taught twice per year in 2008 and 2009. SIG supported his travel and some minor equipment for the university; Dr. Djikeng contributed his time. Through his work and associations in the U.S. and Africa, Dr. Djikeng also served as an informal ambassador for the Global Science Corps.
