SIG Board Member Jacob Palis Receives Balzan Prize

SIG board member Jacob Palis received the Balzan Prize for Mathematics from the President of the Republic of Italy on November 19, 2010 in Rome. The award was given in recognition of "his fundamental contributions to the Mathematical Theory of Dynamical Systems." The International Balzan Prize Foundation’s aim is to promote culture, the sciences and the most meritorious initiatives in the cause of humanity, peace and brotherhood among peoples throughout the world.
